First, "Jasper County Administrator Andrew Fulghum thinks that the county would be able to prevent the alcohol driven and sex saturated businesses from locating near the casino but an old Middle Eastern proverbs states that once the camel gets his nose in the tent, the rest of him is sure to follow." is a quote that makes me wonder if you are informed on this subject at all. In Jasper County as well as Beaufort County, we have wonderful laws, regulations, and zoning rules that would make it nearly impossible for "unsavory businesses" to located in the area.

Secondly, we have the Education Lottery in SC. We live in a FREE MARKET here and it is not fair that one entity can run a business based on gambling, and another cannot.

Third, in response to "William Thompson of UNLV points out casinos will have a negative impact on the community if less than 50 percent of gamblers don’t come from out-of-state." the proposed project will bring over 70% of tourists from OUT OF STATE. Problem solved.

Finally, lets take a look at the big picture: the casino is a small part of the overall project. In Hilton Head Lakes (where all this will take place; 18 miles away from Hilton Head Island) there will be over 4700 residential homes, several upscale dining options, a 400-room Luxury resort, a convention center, and the entertainment facility.

This will bring over 2200 jobs directly (on site) and roughly 5000 jobs though out the state. With our unemployment nearing the double digits, the time for action is now.

Not sure if this is from the very same interview you mentioned, but one part I thought she had spot-on was this:

She thinks SC may be reverting to its Democratic roots. Why? Because she said she heard for 2 straight years from the Democrats that Clinton's private life had nothing to do with his ability to govern. And she never thought she'd live to see the day when she'd be hearing the exact same thing from Republicans. She also stated that if Romney or Santorum had cheated on two wives, she wouldn't support either one.

I agree that South Carolinians were definitely all fired up, but for being so-called values voters, they sure have a funny way of showing it. ;)

Re: Ann Coulter May Be Helping Gingrich by Attacking South Carolina

Well, Raggedy Ann may frequently miss the target by several meters these days, but often she still has something substantive to say. ;)

Why, in my opinion are evangelicals (culture warriors/rotarians) soooo blind? George W. It was as if even the strictest South Carolina Evangelicals were saying: “The war is on. The bullets are flying. We are pinned down on the beach and you want to know about the commander’s personal life? Get back to us later on that…if we survive.

But another clue may be found in the words of a popular Christian catch phrase found on automobile bumpers all across South Carolina. That phrase? “Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven.”

Well, I would disagree about calling those folk "strict," but yes, I'd say it all basically boils down to 2 things:

1) Emotion-filled thinking: "We hate Obama!" "We hate the MSM!" "We hate Mitt Romney!"

But for Christians, isn't our love for Christ and what's right supposed to be stronger than our hatred and fear of what's wrong? I'm not saying the two are incompatible by any stretch--just that we should focus more on the former.

2) Double standards--or being a respecter of persons.

It's NOT OK for Democrats or people we don't like to commit adultery! But if someone we like does it, well, hey, no one's perfect. And who are we to judge anyway? :P

The funny thing about the saying Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven is that it doesn't direclty apply to electing someone to office. The Bible says we are to love our neighbor and to forgive our neighbor. But where exactly in the Bible does it command us to vote for our neighbor? ;)

I've heard a lot of unpleasant things about BJU, but I'm glad that overall they seem to have their heads on a bit straighter than many of SC's other "diverse evangelicals." :)

Re: SC Evangelicals: Culture Warriors vs. Rotarians

So why don't we all just forgive Obama then? Who are we to judge that poor man? Doesn't the Bible command us to forgive? Who among us doesn't sin? None of us are perfect, and we've all fallen short of the glory of God. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world.
-Sen. Rick Santorum

If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.
-Pres. Ronald Reagan

-"Libertarian principles are the conscience of the Republican party.”
Sen. Jim DeMint

Re: Who Won the Last Debate Before the South Carolina Primary?

I see ALOT of misrepresentations of Paul's views here....

First lets talk marriage. Currently marriage is defined at the state level. Some States allow for Common Law Marriage, others do not. Some states require you to be 18 irregardless of parental consent, others say you can be 16 with one parents approval, others both are required. In Texas you can be married at age 14 with consent.

Nothing in the constitution delegates the definition of marriage to the Federal Government, and so under the 10th Amendment that right, or power is reserved by the states or by the people.

Legalized Prostitution... This is laughable at best. Currently prostitution laws are handled at the state level. We have a state such as Nevada that has legalized prostitution. We don't hear Senator Santorum calling on a federal ban on prostitution, so using your failed logic, he must be pro hooker too...

Legalized Drugs... For every other crime in this nation, we look to states to enact a criminal justice system. Ron Paul would simply take that philosophy and apply it to this issue. Again, if we apply your failed logic, then Mitt Romney would be pro murder, because he is not running on a campaign to make murder a federal offense.

Isolationist Foreign Policy... An Isolationist foreign policy is North Korea... Ron Paul's foreign policy is much more like Switzerland

Re: Who Won the Last Debate Before the South Carolina Primary?

Tom, I watch the debate - newt gingrich did. He also got a standing ovation. Which is rare in debates. Juan Williams tried his best liberal gotchas.
Now his x of 13 years ago states he wanted an open marriage. In fact she presumed its what he wanted. But he never actual stated that. He was ended. The marriage when he informed her of his affair.
Please note her current friend works for mitt romney as campaign advisor. Its the same thing did to Herman Cain. So it makes u wonder since its the same moral gotcha.
But when someone asks for forgiveness, join a church, quit drinking, do better morally. Right for 13 yrs. I'll encourage Tony to respond to your questions.

Re: Who Won the Last Debate Before the South Carolina Primary?

f Americans don't vote Ron Paul into office, they deserve the tyranny of the foreign lobbys in DC and the financial rape the useless wars and the Fed will impose on them, make America great from within, lead democracy by example, no one but Ron Paul has the guts or the vision to stand up to the Banksters and non patriotic DC lobby groups, you all know who they are!

Re: Who Won the Last Debate Before the South Carolina Primary?

Shane, I did not get the opportunity to see the debate. I had other responsibilities. So, given the fact that I didn't see it, and your post says it doesn't matter, what am I to conclude?

It was someone you don't like or, it was obvious but you don't really want to write a piece which is favorable to the winner?

I didn't see it. I do however follow this stuff every day, why not tell me who won?

BTW, just from the size of the paragraphs, it would appear you are making the case against one candidate more than the others, is that because he won.

I'm left to wonder, what exactly did any of them say that was good and positive? Did any of them have ideas which all Republicans should adopt as standards for the Republican Party?

What do you have to say which is positive about the four remaining candidates?

Re: Who Won the Last Debate Before the South Carolina Primary?

I think you're thinking of the wrong debate... the Fox News debate was Monday. This is the CNN debate we're talking about.

Re: Who Won the Last Debate Before the South Carolina Primary?

“One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right.

Sen. Jim DeMint

Who r we to judge or condemn?
